Somatic Therapy for Nervous System Healing, Trauma & Functional Freeze

Somatic therapy is a body-based healing approach that helps you reconnect with your nervous system, release held tension, and move out of survival responses like chronic freeze, shutdown or emotional numbness. Rather than focusing solely on thoughts, beliefs or behaviour, somatic therapy addresses how your body stores and processes stress, trauma and nervous system dysregulation.

Feel emotionally disconnected, numb or flat. Carry anxiety, overwhelm or chronic tension in the body. Experience functional freeze despite “doing all the right things.” Have lived with trauma, attachment wounds or neurodivergent nervous systems, or want a healing path rooted in safety, presence and internal regulation.

Somatic therapy helps you notice what your body already knows and invites a deeper sense of ease, embodied presence and self-awareness.

How Somatic Therapy Works

Your nervous system responds moment-to-moment to your environment, relationships, breath, movement and internal sensations. When you’ve lived with overwhelm, stress, relational wounding or chronic survival patterns, your nervous system holds that experience in the body, not just your mind. This isn't about fixing you. It's about teaching your nervous system that it can soften, regulate and return to an embodied experience of life. In somatic therapy, we work with:

Who Can Benefit from Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy supports people who find that conventional talk therapy hasn’t fully resolved their nervous system responses, as trauma, overwhelm or burnout lives in the body. If you function on the outside but feel disconnected inside and meditation or mindfulness feels inaccessible or overwhelming. Maybe your emotional awareness feels difficult or numb.

 

This somatic approach works especially well for people who have lived with relational trauma, unresolved attachment patterns, high sensitivity or neurodivergent nervous systems, functional freeze or shutdown, chronic anxiety, tension or panic responses.

If your nervous system learned survival before it learned safety, somatic therapy helps you re-train that system gently without force, pressure or bypassing.

What to Expect in a Somatic Therapy Session

In a typical session, we might explore what you feel in your body before you think about it. Notice breath, sensation, temperature, movement or tension. Work with practices that invite ease and regulation. Track subtle body responses that reveal patterns of holding or release and practice grounded presence in a safe, regulated space.

You remain in control of the pace, and nothing is rushed. The emphasis is always on felt safety, nervous system regulation and embodied awareness.

I bring together lived experience, nervous system education and body-first practice to support you in reconnecting with your own inner wisdom. This work invites you into your body with curiosity and compassion, rather than force or judgement.

Clients often notice increased bodily awareness and presence, reduced tension, anxiety or dysregulation, deeper connection to emotion and intuition, smoother transitions out of survival mode, greater sense of internal safety and choice and improved capacity for relationships, presence and self-trust. 

There are many reasons why someone might seek somatic therapy and it's often the result of a deep sense that something needs to change.
